Caroline Wiltshire

Caroline WiltshireI am interested in phonological theory in general, and focus on syllables and how they organize phonotactics cross-linguistically. In order to see syllables in action, I look not only at phonological alternations within languages, but also at contact and second language acquisition (borrowing, World Englishes). I also have worked on tone, both in describing languages of North East India and in articles on the interface between phonetic coarticulation and phonological tone changes (sandhi), in work with Si Chen and Ratree Wayland. I have worked on a variety of languages (Arabic, Italian, Tamil, etc.), and am currently focusing on Indian English as it is spoken in North East India.
